Sarah & Niko's wedding was spread across 4 wonderful days in the beautiful Hamilton Island. This was a wedding Sarah had dreamt about since she was a teenager. Her dream love story! We covered 3 of those days & were welcomed as guests to the recovery lunch. It was an incredible experience filled with big emotions and huge amounts of genuine love.

Friday evening kicked off the wedding weekend with a welcome drinks at the Hamilton Island Yacht club. Sarah put together a photo walk that guests were encouraged to enjoy as they entered the festivities. The most impactful photos had guests in tears, but also feeling deep love for the couple. Sarah's mum, a core pillar in the family, sadly past after a long battle. She was missed, but Sarah found a way to weave her soul into the wedding celebrations. A pillar of the weekend as she was always meant to be.

The feel of the welcome drinks was chill and free-flowing. Our approach was very much documentative, with portraits and posing and element only if asked for.
Sarah and Niko wanted it to feel as if we were simply friends with cameras, so our goal was to break the ice and give guests a sense of calm & comfort around us. This people-first approach is what allows us to capture images that tell a deeper story & leave you feeling something real. Having multiple days with the couple and guests meant that connection only grew deeper as the days went by.

As part of their wedding memories, Sarah and Niko opted to incorporate 35mm film & also a Super 8 highlight reel. Film adds a touch of authenticity that digital can never quite match. Seeing yourself on film (photo or video) feels the way you remember it!
Ask us about incorporating film in your gallery!

Onto day 2... Time to make a cake!
But first... here is the Super 8 highlight vid.

Part of Sarah's Hamilton Island wedding dream was to make her own wedding cake. It's moments like these that are remembered forever.. no make-up.. no fancy outfits.. just childhood friends making core memories.

We shot two rolls of 35mm film for Sarah & Niko's wedding. One roll of Portra 400 colour film & one roll of HP5 Black and white film. The next images are shot on 35mm film during the cake making day with the girls.

Sunday was kept as a day to chill and get any final strings tied off. This gave Matt and I a chance to explore the island with Sarah & Niko & make sure everything was ready to go for the big day!
The wedding day was full of big emotions, and precious moments. It was a blessing to be trusted with documenting this day & capturing memories that will last forever. Our day started at Niko's.

The vibes were calm and relaxed with family slowly shuffling in as the day progressed. Our approach was to let the moments play out & capture the moments that unfolded. Sarah also hand-wrote letters for Niko and his close family. It was a beautiful little moment.

We hopped into the buggy's (the only way to get around Hamilton Island) & cruised on over to Sarah's place. Some beautiful big emotions came through. Feelings of anxiety & moments spent missing mum mixed in with the excitement of the day & a future spent with the love of her life. We were humbled to document these beautiful vulnerable moments.

The love that Sarah & her sister Olivia have for one another is hard to describe with words. During some of the tougher moments Olivia was there to lift Sarah up and ground her in the present. Some truly powerful moments.
The reveal with Dad was another heart-stopping moment. The depth of the love ... I truly cannot find the words.

"I'm going to the chapel and I'm going to get married!"

A few moments snapped up on film.

The black and white moments of this ceremony really draw you into the emotion of the moment.

The ceremony was held at the beautiful All Saints Chapel off Melaleuca Drive, Hamilton Island.
There are certain moments that words fail you.. this ceremony is one. The energy in that chapel just can't be described. These two have the kind of love that books are written about, movies made about, and tales told that stretch eons. Deep.. I know.. but so true.

Signing is one of our favourite moments & the interactions and emotions felt immediately around it. These are some of the most sincere images you will see in your gallery.

After a small moment of mingles we got straight into some of the most important photos of the day... family formals! These images are often a little less exciting but they are the images you will treasure most decades from now. A chance to freeze time while all of your loved ones are together. Always allow plenty of time to get the group shots with the people you want to remember most.

Kicking off the portraits with a single film snap on the 35mm using Kodak Portra 400 at the Chapel. Then we kicked it into top gear (about 10k and hour hahaha) on the buggies & headed to Qualia resort for some editorial style portraits before the reception kicked off.

And one last snap on the film camera before giving these two a moment to freshen up & switch up the hair before the reception kicks off.

The reception kicked off with the star of the show... THE CAKE OF COURSE! With the cocoa powder sprinkled, Sarah & Niko kicked off the formals with a welcome speech filled with a range of emotions that set the loving tone for the rest of the evening.

The Dad & Daughter dance was beautiful. Tears and hidden smiles were followed by a well choreographed and practiced first dance from Sarah & Niko.

The moments in between & the hidden emotions during the speeches... that is what weddings are all about.
Having two camera's enables us to capture moments otherwise left invisible.

The party went off!! Hosted at the amazing Beach Pavilion, the space was perfect for a night of dancing and celebration! And that is exactly what this amazing crew did. With Niko even making a feature on the DJ decks!
See if you can spot the film images mixed in (clue: they are shot on a black and white film stock.. can you see the difference)

To keep the guests entertained and break up the ceremony a little, Sarah and Niko hid the rings under the guest seating. There was a small moment of panic when one of the rings seemed to have gone missing. But it was found and everyone breathed a sigh of relieve as laughter spread across the chapel, Then... the kiss & their lives were sealed!
