Emma and Andrew opted for a subtle ceremony at the registration office followed by some simple speeches, delicious food, and a celebration of life at the beautiful Melbourne Place. Our role on the day was to simply sit back and document the moments. As raw and real as possible. Excitingly we were also the first photographers to document a wedding at Melbourne Place.
Emma's dress and Andrew's suit fit perfectly with the 20th century architecture of the registry. Our goal for the ceremony was to stay as inconspicuous as possible, but to ensure we capture those real moments. It's tricky to do this without effecting the way a couple expresses themselves in vulnerable moments. Having a camera in your face is not a natural feeling, so to achieve our unique authentic feel we approach each wedding with the intention of building a friendship first, creating trust and opening a doorway into your world. We naturally trust our friends in a way we can never trust a stranger. We also are very selective about when we use flash. In almost every intimate situation flash is just not necessarily and actually can sterilise the feeling or mood of a moment. Flash is also incredibly distracting and pulls the couple away from the present.
Melbourne Place served as the reception space, and was a beautiful space to work in. So much natural light flooding into hidden little moments made our job a breeze. If a CBD mid sized wedding that screams class and subtle elegance is for you... check out Melbourne Place. We also did no portraits. Crazy right!? Not really.. for Emma and Andrew portraits meant nothing to them, they wanted to be with their people and for those moments to hang on their walls.
Stars of the show, Andrew's sons were at the head of a loving group of family members and close friends. It wasn't a large event, but everyone there loved Emma and Andrew. Not to mention, the styles and fits were on point. Classic & timeless was the feel.
Speeches were subtle and minimal but loaded with meaning and emotion. Accounts of personal struggles mixed in with gratitude for one another and an underlying feeling of true love. The kind of love that isn't shouted from the windows, it's the kind of love that is always present and doesn't need to announce itself. It's hard to explain using words, but Emma and Andrew have a deep loving respect for one another. It's beautiful!
With the sax in play and the napkins flying high, by the time it came to dancing we were well and truly a part of the family! Photos came as & the moments were flowing. Loved loved loved this wedding!

Because we felt like guests, any portraits we did take felt natural and real.

We handed over one of our camera's to Andrew's sons.. the results were actually incredible and further reinforced how important having a human connection is to taking a great portrait.
